Ariane Fortin earns victory as Canadian champion
Two time world champion, Ariane Fortin stepped into the boxing ring tonight against reinging natonal champion Mary spencer, earning victory as the Canadian championship in the 75kg weight category, in a unanimous 3-0 decision at the 2014 Elite Men's & Women's Canadian Boxing Championship. Fortin versus Spencer was the most anticipated bout of the competition.
Fortin lost to Spencer at the 2013 Elite Men's & Women's Canadian Championships, and claimed biased juding. She and her manager filed an appeal directly after the bout, which eliminated her from contention for a position on Canada’s first Olympic women’s boxing team. Spencer was the first ever female Olympic boxer in Canadian history.
Fortin and Spencer will re-enter the ring at Final Team Selection, November 18-23, 2013, in Quebec City, QC, in pursuit to compete at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
